How long does delivery take?
Orders ship from US fulfillment centers, and standard delivery is typically 3 to 5 business days after the order is placed. You get a tracking number by email when it ships.
How much is shipping?
Shipping is free on every order within the United States. There is no minimum order value and no handling fee. The price you see on the product page is the price you pay, plus sales tax where it applies.
Where do orders ship from?
Orders ship from fulfillment centers inside the United States. Nothing ships to you from overseas, and there are no customs charges or import fees on a US order. The garments themselves are manufactured in China.
Do you ship outside the United States?
Not at this time. The store ships within the United States only.
What is your return policy?
Returns are free within 30 days. Unworn, unwashed items in original condition can be returned within 30 days of delivery for a refund, and we pay return shipping. Ask for a return through the contact form with your order number and we will email you a prepaid label.
Can I exchange it for a different size?
The simplest route is to return the item you have and place a new order for the size you want, which is faster than an exchange and means the size you want is not held while a parcel travels. If your size is out of stock, tell us on the contact form and we will let you know when it is back.
What size should I order?
These are cut intentionally oversized with a drop shoulder, so they are true to size for a relaxed look and you should size down for a fitted look. Women and people with smaller frames typically size down 1 to 2 sizes. The most reliable method is to measure a sweatshirt you already own armpit to armpit and compare it to the flat width chart on the sizing page.
Should I size up so it fits over other clothes?
Usually not. The sweatshirts and hoodies already have room for a layer underneath at your normal size, and sizing up mainly adds sleeve length, which gets in the way when someone is trying to reach your forearm. If you want maximum coverage, the wearable blanket is designed to go over your clothes.
Should I size up for extra warmth?
No. A looser garment does not hold more warmth, it holds less. If you want more warmth, choose a warmer fabric rather than a bigger size: the sherpa fleece styles are heavier than the 95% cotton ones.
Is it warm enough for a cold clinic?
The sherpa fleece hoodie and sherpa fleece crewneck are the warmest garments in the range, and are the ones to choose if you sit still for hours in a cold room. The 95% cotton styles are mid-weight and comparable to a normal sweatshirt. The wearable blanket is designed specifically for a treatment chair, since it drapes over your lap and arms.
Can I wear it during infusion?
Yes, that is what it is designed for. You open only the section over the access point, the line runs out through that opening, and the rest of the garment stays closed for the whole session. Nothing has to be removed or held out of the way once you are seated.
Does the zipper touch my fistula?
The opening is made by separating two pulls at the point you choose, so the zipper hardware sits to the side of the opening rather than across it. Where the track sits relative to your own access depends on your arm, so it is worth trying the garment on before a treatment day rather than in the chair. If a zipper near an access site is a concern for you, ask your dialysis nurse.
Can I open just one arm?
Yes. On the hoodies and the wearable blanket the two sleeve zippers are completely independent, so opening one does nothing to the other. On the wrist-to-wrist styles the four pulls let you open one section and leave the rest of the track closed.
Can it open two places at once?
On the wrist-to-wrist styles, yes. The four pulls create up to two separate openings anywhere along the track, so an access site and a chest port can both be open at the same time. On the wrist-to-chest styles, each sleeve opens independently, so both arms can be open at once.
Will my other arm be free for a blood pressure cuff?
Yes. You only open the section you need, so the opposite arm stays covered and is free for a cuff. On the wrist-to-wrist styles you can also hold two openings at once if both arms need to be reachable.
Can a nurse or a care partner work the zipper?
Yes. Every pull is on the outside of the garment and reachable without moving the wearer. There is nothing to unfasten behind the back, and nobody has to stand up or raise their arms for an opening to be made.
Is it machine washable?
Yes, everything in the range is machine washable, including the wearable blanket. Close every zipper first, turn the garment inside out, wash cold and tumble dry low or hang dry. Skip fabric softener, especially on the fleece styles.
Will it shrink?
The cotton garments are made from pre-washed 95% cotton with 5% spandex, so significant shrinkage is not expected in a cold wash and a low dryer. Hot water and high dryer heat will shrink cotton and will shorten the life of the spandex. The fleece garments are 100% polyester and do not shrink in normal washing.
What is it made of?
The crewneck, full-zip hoodie, pullover hoodie and t-shirt are 95% cotton and 5% spandex, pre-washed. The sherpa fleece hoodie, sherpa fleece crewneck and wearable blanket are 100% polyester fleece. Full details are on each product page.
Is it patented?
Partly. The wrist-to-chest zipper design used on the cotton full-zip hoodie and the sherpa fleece hoodie is patented. The wrist-to-wrist design used on the crewnecks and the pullover hoodie is patent pending, with applications on file at the USPTO.
Who makes these?
Outdoor Dialysis is a brand of chilaquiles ltd. The garments are produced by our manufacturing partner to our own specification and grading, and are manufactured in China. These are not blanks with a logo added, the zipper construction is the product.
Are these medical devices?
No. They are clothes. They are not sterile, they are not regulated medical devices, and nothing about them is claimed to change a clinical outcome or replace any part of your access care.
Do you have anything for peritoneal dialysis?
Not in the sense of an opening at the abdomen. Every garment in this range opens at the arms or the upper chest, so none of them gives access to a PD exit site. What they do offer is a relaxed cut that is not tight over the abdomen, and warmth during an exchange.
Where else can I buy these?
The same products are sold on Amazon under the brand Outdoor Dialysis, on Etsy at the shop OutdoorDialysis, and on Walmart.com. Prices are identical everywhere. Ordering here is the direct route and ships free.
Can I buy one as a gift?
Yes, and it is a common reason people order. Gift receipts, gift messages and gift wrap are not offered at this time.
Do you offer discounts for clinics or bulk orders?
Get in touch through the contact form with what you are looking for and the quantities, and we will come back to you.
Something is wrong with my order. What do I do?
Use the contact form with your order number and a description of the problem, and include a photo if something arrived damaged or incorrect. We will tell you what happens next. The contact form is the only support route, there is no phone line.
The size I want is out of stock. Will it come back?
Usually yes. Stock levels come straight from our fulfillment inventory, so a size that is not selectable is genuinely out of stock rather than discontinued. The exception is the green colorway, which is being discontinued and will not be restocked once the remaining stock sells.
Why is one color priced lower?
Green and olive are being discontinued across the range and will not be restocked. Some remaining green stock is priced to clear, and the product page always shows the current price. Discontinued colors are the same garment made the same way, and the return terms are the same.
